Hello,

Im a student researching hardware to protect software. I come from a undergrad background of intermediate C programming and simple soda machine implementations in vhdl implemented on a breadboard. I now have turned that up 10 notches and have a DRC machine with a Xilinx Virtex 4 in the Opteron socket. I am finding myself quite overwhelmed (help!)...smile.gif Anyway Im looking at ways to use the Virtex 4 to acquire (shadow) the Opterons 4GB of physical DDR memory into the Virtex4's 4GB of DDR memory on the motherboard through the Hypertransport Bus. I would eventually like to be able to move the the memory that the FPGA acquired off the FPGA to something nonvolatile through the jtag interface to be analyzed.

Since I am a little bit more familar with C than Verilog or VHDL, will I be able to implement something like this using ImpulseC to program the FPGA to do the copy at a certain point in time or trigger?

Thanks,
Al

We are developing a Platform Support Package for the DRC RPU that will make developing such a system easier. The intial version, available now with the limited 3.0 Alpha release of CoDeveloper, just supports streams between Opteron and FPGA. We would like to add support for DMA to the RPU110's various memories to enable applications like yours, but we have no estimates yet of when such a feature would be available.

Regards,
Ralph
