Incompatibilities between Quartus II 4.0/Nios II IDE 1.0 and versions 4.2/1.1 have impacted Impulse C and CoDeveloper. We are working to resolve problems caused by these incompatibilities and will announce a new release of the CoDeveloper software as soon as the issues have been resolved.

In the meantime, please continue to use Quartus II 4.0 and Nios II IDE 1.0 for your Impulse C designs for the Altera Nios II platform.

Altera recommends that you use a specific version of the Quartus II/SOPC Builder tools with each version of the Nios II development kit. Their recommendations are posted here:

Could you elaborate on what these problems are, as well as which, if any, have since been resolved? Is there any sort of changelog available? I only ask as I just noticed this post, and have recently upgrade my Nios II to 1.1, and am curious as to whether the problems I'm running into are my own, or are things that broke with the upgrade.

Thanks,

There have been problems building software under Nios II IDE 1.1, where the library files for the Impulse C module (co_stream.c, etc.) are not found by the compiler when building a system library. For example, with ImageFilterDMA:

make -s all
Compiling co_init.c...
../co_init.c:12:16: co.h: No such file or directory
../co_init.c:18: warning: parameter names (without types) in function declaration
[ ... ]

This issue may be related to a conflict between different versions of SOPC Builder or the Nios II IDE installed on the same system.

There are currently no other known issues with Quartus II 4.2 and the Nios II IDE 1.1.

Ok, I thought there may have been something more serious. Manually copying the library files into the software project seems to work fine for now, so I'll continue doing that.

Thanks,

Altera recognizes this is a new issue with Nios II IDE 1.1. From the Quartus II 4.2 SP1 release notes, Altera suggests the following resolution:

QUOTE
1. In SOPC Builder, choose SOPC Builder Setup (File Menu)
2. In Component/Kit Library Search Path, type the path to the directory which encompasses the component directory (the directory above the component).

The component directory is where the user_logic_*_module/ directory resides and should be the same as the Impulse C project's hardware export directory.

A future release of CoDeveloper may resolve this issue without user intervention.
